COURSE DESCRIPTION

Course Aim:

The purpose of the course is to give the student and professional not acquainted with the BIM practice: knowledge, skills and competences in that independently utilize the software Revit 2020.

Technology in combination with building technology rules in construction engineering and mechanical design, design work and drawing.

The course provides knowledge in:

– Standardized technical rules, standards, tolerances and drawing generation.
– Basic principles for sketching, and for example design intent, parametric and equation controlled modelling of construction details (parties) and compilation of parties (assembly) to create robust structures.
– The fundamental relationship between strength calculations and design work in BIM.

After the course, the student should have skills in:
– Create sketches and extrusions to model design details (parties).
and building components as a basis for design and construction.
– Create assemblies with parties.
– Apply ride rules, view locations, standards and tolerances in BIM
– Effectively apply existing features for modifying sketches and solids related to the design of parameterized and equation-controlled solid models.
– Generate basic 2D drawings and simpler visualizations based on parties and assemblies and given riding rules.

Competencies:
– After completing the course, the student should have the skills to, in collaboration with the others courses in education, planning and modelling simpler constructions, building components and building parts, generate design drawings of these and be able to create configurations to handle variants of a product.

The knowledge that the course provides and the skills that the course provides should give the student competence to work as a designer, product developer or project manager at construction consultants; building contractors etc.

COURSE CALENDAR

Introduction to BIM _ Day 1 (Saturday 04th July 2020 _ 17:00-18:30 _ GMT +1):
• Introduction to BIM (why is CAD past?)
• Core concepts (parametric, data storing & data coordination, computability)
• Let’s understand the program environment (menu and features)
• How to start a project (decide which project template to use, add floors, add system lines)

First online guided exercise session _ Day 2 (Sunday 05th July 2020 _ 17:00-18:30 _ GMT +1):
• Exercise 1 – Starting a project together with the course manager
(add floors, system lines, project template)
• Exercise 2 – Basic modelling part I . Small workshops mode with the supervision of the course manager.
(walls, snaps, doors, windows, restrictions) –
• Sketch-based modelling components
(walls, roofs, ceilings, concrete slab)
• Stairs and handrails

Second online guided exercise session _ Day 3 (Saturday 11th July 2020 _ 17:00-18:30 _ GMT +1):
• Excercise 3 – Basic modelling II – Add components
• Visibility and graphic controls 

First synthesis – quantity computation _ Day 4 (Sunday 12th July 2020 _ 17:00-18:30 _ GMT +1):
• General summary of the previous sessions
• Schedules and tags

Revit Structure _ Day 5 (Saturday 18th July 2020 _ 17:00-18:30 _ GMT +1):
• REVIT STRUCTURE: column and beams
• REVIT STRUCTURE: slabs
• Excercise 4: test modelling column, beams and slabs. Small workshop mode with the supervision of the course manager.

First helpdesk _ Day 6 (Sunday 19th July 2020 _ 17:00-18:30 _ GMT +1):
• Helpdesk – book your time with the course manager – availability for six 20 min individual meeting
• Collective help desk by group issue

Revit Structure _ Day 7 (Saturday 25th July 2020 _ 17:00-18:30 _ GMT +1):
• REVIT STRUCTURE: straight and curved concrete reinforcement
• Excercise 5: test to reinforce concrete. Small workshops mode with the supervision of the course manager.

Second helpdesk _ Day 8 (Sunday 26th July 2020 _ 17:00-18:30 _ GMT +1):
• Helpdesk – book your time with the course manager – availability for six 20 min individual meeting
• Collective help desk by group issue

Second synthesis and course end_ Day 9 (Saturday 1th August 2020 _ 17:00-18:30 _ GMT +1):
• Note and details
• Sheets, plotting and publishing
• Summary
• End of course – bibliography – advice
